What
have I learned?
One hope I have when working with young children and their families
who come from diverse backgrounds is to make sure I relate to each and every
family in a proper way that does not offend anyone. Therefore understanding that
all families are different therefore respecting each individual family as individuals.
Moreover making sure I take the time to listen to all children, and their family’s
questions, and concerns in order that I may effectively help all families with
the appropriate resources they may need.
One goal I would like to set for the early childhood field related
to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice is to make it known within
my own work place, and my community that these issues do exist. I would also like
for all centers, and schools that work with young children, and older children
be required to have all staff take a course in anti-bias education. In doing so
I believe taking such a course would help each individual learn more about
themselves, and learn how to effectively communicate in a respectful way when
interacting with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
Lastly I would like to say I have really enjoyed this course
through communicating with all of you on the discussion boards, and your
personal blogs. I want to thank all of you for your positive feedback, and the valuable
information you have shared. I wish the best to all of you and great success.
